HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Thani, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting today at the Amiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said that the Cabinet lauded the results of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s official state visit to the Russian Federation on 17 April.
The Cabinet lauded fruitful discussions between HH the Amir and President Vladimir Putin, which were marked by a positive atmosphere and reflected their mutual trust, respect and commitment to develop economic cooperation and strengthen their existing partnership across sectors. This was evidenced by the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the visit, which are set to open prospects for both nations and reinforce joint efforts toward regional security, stability and global peace.
Following this, the Cabinet praised productive discussions between HH the Amir and Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun during his official visit to the State of Qatar on 15-16 April, highlighting that the joint statement issued showcases the depth of bilateral relations and historical bonds, as well as their mutual commitment to strengthen these ties in the interest of their people and to support regional stability and development.
In further proceedings, the Cabinet noted the Shura Council's approval of a draft law on regulating meteorological activities and services.
The legislation aims to regulate activities in meteorological services while strengthening private sector participation in this field.
The Cabinet also approved several draft decrees related to the Facility E power and water production facility in Ras Abu Fontas.
This project, overseen by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, represents a strategic step toward strengthening the State of Qatar's energy and water resources, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy 2024 - 2030 which aim to support social and economic development, ensure safe and sustainable energy and water supplies and promote public-private partnership projects.
In addition, the Cabinet approved a draft decision by the Minister of Commerce and Industry to adopt the national technical regulation as an official Qatari technical regulation. Developed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the draft decision aims to streamline trade exchange, improve the quality and safety of goods and agricultural products and keep pace with developments in standardisation.
From there, the Cabinet approved a draft cooperation agreement in agriculture between the State of Qatar and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, a draft memorandum of understanding for a maritime cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cyprus, and a draft executive program in sports and youth between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Hungary for 2025 - 2026.
Concluding the meeting, the Cabinet reviewed the 2024 annual report on the Anti-Concealment Committee's activities, taking appropriate decisions thereon.
