Cabinet Holds Weekly Meeting

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting today at the Amiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, stated that the Cabinet commended the productive discussions between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt during his official visit to the State of Qatar on 13 - 14 April. Reflecting the strong relations between both nations, these discussions are built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to advance bilateral ties across various sectors, yielding great benefits for both nations and contributing to regional security and stability. In addition, the joint statement issued afterwards reflected their aligned positions on key regional and international issues, especially regarding Palestine. It further affirmed their ongoing joint efforts to achieve a prompt and lasting ceasefire in Gaza to ensure humanitarian aid reaches civilians and support reconstruction initiatives to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The Cabinet also praised the outcomes of HH the Amir's meetings with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his official visit to Qatar on 12 - 13 April. The Cabinet noted that these productive talks have elevated bilateral relations to a new level of partnership, focused on economic cooperation, investment opportunities and deeper mutual understanding that serves the interests of both nations.

Additionally, the Cabinet lauded significant discussions had between HH Sheikh Tamim and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara during his official visit to the State of Qatar yesterday in which they expressed their mutual desire to advance cooperation and bilateral ties, particularly in political and diplomatic areas, while strengthening coordination to serve their national interests and enhance regional security and stability.

In further proceedings, the Cabinet approved a draft Amiri decree amending select provisions of Amiri Decree No. (14) of 2011, which established the Anti-Doping Laboratory and a draft Amiri decree establishing the Qatar Anti-Doping Agency. The proposal for creating this agency aims to enhance efforts dedicated to combating doping in the sports sector.

From there, the Cabinet approved a draft Cabinet decision to form the Digital Safety Committee for Children and Youth within the Ministry of Social Development and Family. This committee, which comes as part of a proposal developed by the Shura Council, will conduct a comprehensive study on safety conditions for children and youth. The committee will also develop tailored recommendations for relevant government entities based on their respective scope to ensure a secure digital environment.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved a draft Cabinet decision to restructure the committee overseeing food security policy implementation across public and private sectors. Prepared by the Ministry of Municipality, the draft decision supports the National Food Security Strategy 2024-2030 by developing a robust food system that strengthens the State of Qatar's diverse and competitive economy while ensuring a sustainable balance between economic, social and environmental development.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a draft agreement to establish the Arab Energy Organization, which incorporates all amendments to the agreement that established the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries; a draft protocol on immunities and privileges for the organisation and its staff; a draft memorandum of understanding on diplomatic training and education between the State of Qatar's Diplomatic Institute, which falls under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Diplomatic Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; a draft agreement between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the transfer of convicted individuals, a draft agreement between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Uzbekistan on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters; a draft agreement between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Uzbekistan on extradition; a draft strategic partnership program between the State of Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Korean Intellectual Property Office to establish Qatar’s national intellectual property strategy and enhance capacity-building; and draft core contribution agreement between the Qatar Fund For Development and the United Nations, represented by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, for the Trust Fund to support non-governmental human rights organisations in 2025 - 2026.

The Cabinet concluded its meeting by reviewing four reports, taking appropriate decisions thereon. These included the report of the joint committee’s findings on updating the criteria for implementing fixed electricity consumption rates for producing farms; the 3rd report from the team monitoring the implementation of recommendations made by the committee studying chemicals, hazardous materials, dual-use materials and chemical precursors; and a report detailing outcomes from Qatar's delegation, headed by HE the Minister of Municipality, at the Real Estate Future Forum, which was held in Riyadh in January 2025; and a report on the State of Qatar's participation, led by HE the Minister of Labour, in the 102nd Arab Labor Organization’s Board of Directors session, hosted in Cario last February 2025.
