Cabinet holds weekly meeting

​​HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting today at the Amiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said that the Cabinet began their session by lauding the launch of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Strategy and the Qatar National Manufacturing Strategy 2024-2030, unveiled by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, under the theme “Achieving Sustainable Economic Growth.”

The newly launched strategies serve as vital components in implementing the Third National Development Strategy, marking the final phase toward achieving Qatar’s National Vision 2030. These strategies are designed to promote sustainable economic growth, diversify priority economic sectors, increase private sector contribution to GDP, develop manufacturing capabilities and boost Qatar’s economic competitiveness both regionally and internationally.

As part of the session’s proceedings, the Cabinet noted the Shura Council’s approval of a draft law on the State Emblem, which aims to establish comprehensive legal protection for the emblem and implement regulations for its usage.

The Cabinet approved a draft law on unmanned aircrafts (drones) and referred it to the Shura Council. The draft law aims to regulate all drone-related activities to ensure the safety and security of aerial navigation, protect lives and properties and define the roles and responsibilities of relevant authorities in this regard. It also aims to ensure their optimal use, as well as incentivise innovation and investment in this sector.

From there, the Cabinet granted preliminary approval of a draft Cabinet decision on classifying tourism zones based on their unique attractions, whether these are of archaeological, historical, natural, climatic, environmental or ecological significance. The Cabinet also granted preliminary approval of a draft Cabinet decision on designating specific areas in the country as official tourism zones, categorising them according to the type of experiences they offer. Both draft Cabinet decisions aim to reinforce the State of Qatar’s standing as a world-class tourism destination.

Additionally, the Cabinet decided to take the necessary measures to ratify a cooperation agreement on international road transport and goods between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkiye.

The meeting also saw the Cabinet approve a proposal to register and enlist the National Archives of Qatar in the Secretariat General for Centres of Documents and Studies of GCC States; a draft agreement on air transport services between the State of Qatar and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, as well as a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between Qatar Museums and the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Sultanate of Oman. 

The Cabinet also approved a draft MoU for cooperation on higher education and scientific research between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Djibouti; a draft MoU for cooperation between the State of Qatar’s Public Prosecution and the Republic of Paraguay’s Public Prosecutor’s Office, a draft Letter of Intent for security cooperation between the State of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior and the Republic of El Salvador’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security and a draft MoU on conducting political dialogue on matters of mutual interest between the State of Qatar’s and the Republic of Chile’s ministries of foreign affairs.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the Cabinet reviewed four reports, taking the appropriate decisions thereon. These included the 2024 2nd follow-up report on the National Framework for Promoting Good Values and Morals in Qatari Society, which was prepared by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in cooperation with relevant authorities; the Annual 2024 Qatar Development Bank report; a report on HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change’s participation in the 35th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs and a report on HE the Minister of Municipality’s participation at the World Health City Forum 2024.
