Cabinet holds weekly meeting

​HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting today at the Amiri Diwan.


Following the meeting, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said that the Cabinet lauded the outcomes of HH the Amir’s, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, official state visit to the Sultanate of Oman on 28-29 January.

The Cabinet affirmed that the visit, marked by its warm reception, hospitality and significant engagements, as well as the productive discussions between HH the Amir and HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman—along with the signed Memoranda of Understanding, executive programs and joint statement issued at the visit's conclusion—reflected the depth and durability of countries’ bilateral relations. Furthermore, it demonstrated their shared commitment to advancing their ties to enhance mutual understanding and coordinate their position on matters of joint interest, including bolstering GCC joint cooperation and contributing to regional and global security and stability.

In addition, the Cabinet commended the historic and official visit made by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the Syrian Arab Republic on 30 January. The visit underscored Qatar's steadfast commitment to supporting the Syrian population as they pursue their aspirations for development.

The Cabinet lauded the warm and positive atmosphere of HH the Amir’s meeting with HE Ahmed Al-Sharaa, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, at the Presidential Palace in Damascus. The meeting exemplified the deep ties between the two nations and their leadership, while laying the groundwork for strategic cooperation across various sectors. This collaboration aims to bring prosperity and development to both nations, thus strengthening peace and stability throughout the region.

As part of the session’s proceedings, the Cabinet noted the Shura Council's approval of a draft law amending select provisions of Law No. (1) of 2012 on regulating and monitoring the placement of advertisements.

The Cabinet took the necessary measures to ratify a supplementary agreement between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on establishing a UNDP office in Qatar and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for bilateral cooperation to establish a joint ministerial committee for trade cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Costa Rica. 

The Cabinet went on to approve joining the International Operational Risk Working Group; a draft MoU for a food security cooperation between the State of Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Food Security Authority; a draft core contribution agreement to provide regular resources to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in 2025-2026 between Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) and the United Nations through the OCHA; a draft core contribution agreement between the QFFD and the UNDP to support the UNDP's regular resources for 2025-2026; draft core contribution agreement between QFFD and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to support UNICEF's regular resources for 2025-2026; a draft supplementary agreement to the agreement between the UN, represented by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (Office of the Special Representative), and the State of Qatar, to establish the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict in the State of Qatar; a draft MoU for an academic cooperation between University of Doha for Science and Technology and Canada’s University of Saskatchewan and a draft MoU for an academic cooperation between University of Doha for Science and Technology and Canada’s University of British Columbia.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the Cabinet reviewed four reports, taking the appropriate decisions thereon. These included a report on reevaluating the impact of implementing the law on regulating tenders and auctions, along with its executive regulations and explored procedures for developing government procurement mechanisms; the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s report covering feedback from several government entities on the environmental sustainability strategy and incentives for using electric and hybrid vehicles; a report on HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change's participation in United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), and a report on the 10th Session of the Qatar-Iran Joint Committee.
